Rupert Museum

The Rupert Museum in Stellenbosch, housed in an elegant building along the banks of the Eersterivier, is home to the private collection of Anton and Huberte Rupert. The predominant mediums displayed are paintings, sculptures and tapestries.

Officially opened in February 2005, the Rupert Museum now houses over 350 works, and can be regarded as the premier collection of contemporary South African art from the period 1940 to 1970. Following a fire scare in their Stellenbosch home, Huberte Rupert commissioned a gallery where their collection of art could be housed, and enjoyed by the public.

The private art collection, begun in the early 1940s, reveals the fine artistic eye and discerning personal taste of Anton and Huberte Rupert. Today, the collection continues to grow under the careful guardianship of the Rupert Art Foundation.
