Spier Light Festival 2026

Spier Light Art Festival

Spier Light Art, an annual celebration of innovative light art and the longest-running exhibition of its kind on the continent, presents you with a rare opportunity to step away from the glare of a screen and experience light in an elemental, sensual way.

The exhibition of works by established artists gives you the chance to be outside at night, with friends and family, or alone, wandering freely, viewing light artwork positioned across the magnificent landscape of Spier Wine Farm.

You will be in the company of curious strangers, similarly transfixed by the effects of the nocturnal interplay of light and sound.

This year the curators have welcomed an evocative range of whimsical and experimental works that explore technology in intriguing ways.

Installed along the winding paths of the historic wine farm, the featured artworks radiate with ephemeral, enchanting presence, while in dialogue with the light of the moon and the stars.

As there is no predetermined route to follow, you’re invited to meander along the pathways encountering each artwork as it emerges.

How you navigate your way and respond to each installation is part of the excitement of the night, with an aspect of chance woven into the immersive experience.

Spier Light Art

With 21 site-specific art installations activating the landscape, visitors will be free to wander, discover, and immerse themselves in the play of light and the stories that each artwork tells –  an embodied reminder of art’s transformative power to illuminate even the darkest corners of our world and minds. The exhibition ignites fresh sparks and interchange between local and visiting artists and audiences from the continent and the world at large.

The exhibition is a family-friendly event that is free to the public. All the artworks are exhibited outside so the best time to visit is at dusk, when the sun goes down and the lights come up. Bring your family and friends for a night-time adventure of illuminating art, fresh farm air, good wine and hearty food.
