Applications are now open for the Riebeek Kasteel Solo Studios Call for Artists 2026, inviting both established practitioners and emerging voices to take part in one of the Western Cape’s most compelling and commercially successful art weekends.
Set within the quietly magnetic landscape of the Swartland, Solo Studios offers something more considered than a conventional exhibition format. Artists open their studios to the public and share not only finished works but also their process, allowing for direct and meaningful engagement with collectors, curators, and visitors.
Since its inception in 2016, Solo Studios has grown into a serious platform. The 2025 edition recorded art sales exceeding R2.5 million, reflecting both the strength of the participating artists and the calibre of the audience it attracts. Despite this growth, the event retains an intimate and conversational quality that continues to set it apart.
Participation is selective and curator-led. Successful applicants work closely with the organising team, under the direction of Antonio Tomazini, in the lead-up to and throughout the event.
The programme extends well beyond the studio environment. Visitors can expect a broader cultural offering that includes performance, long-table dining experiences, wine tastings, talks, and collaborative projects. These elements place the artwork within the wider rhythm of the valley and create a layered experience for audiences.
For artists who are based in the Riebeek Valley, or who can establish a meaningful connection to the area, this is a valuable opportunity to present work in context, build relationships with collectors, and become part of an engaged and growing creative community.
