The Art of Being Imperfect: Janine Glanz’s Debut Solo Show

Cape Town painter Janine Glanz creates art that feels like an open diary. Working with bold acrylics, her canvases are loose, energetic, and beautifully unfinished. They do not shout answers at you; instead, they feel like honest conversations caught mid-thought.

At the center of her work is the comedy and chaos of human relationships. She captures the strange, tender, and sometimes painful moments that happen when we try our best but still fall short. Her world is filled with simplified, almost cartoonish figures who hug, argue, and drift across fields of bright, saturated colour. By wrapping deep vulnerability in playful humor, Glanz creates paintings that laugh at themselves and  invites us to do the same.

Glanz’s unique eye comes from her childhood. She grew up surrounded by her father’s collection of thousands of slide photographs, capturing a lifetime of ordinary days. Today, her painting practice acts as her own version of that archive, a heartfelt way to hold onto memories and find meaning in the messy business of being human.

After being named one of South Africa’s most exciting new talents in the WORLDART10 competition, Glanz is stepping into the spotlight. Her debut solo exhibition, Let’s Make Mistakes Tonight And Go For Therapy Tomorrow, features a brand-new collection of work created just for this showcase.
