The Association for Visual Arts (AVA) has opened submissions for its 2027 exhibition programme, inviting artists and curators to propose exhibitions that present new work, explore diverse artistic practices and engage with contemporary social issues.
The AVA welcomes proposals for both solo and group exhibitions across a wide range of media. The programme supports projects that foreground new perspectives, amplify marginalised histories and experiences, and encourage experimentation alongside more established exhibition formats.
Applications are open to artists and curators at all stages of their careers. Early-career practitioners, womxn artists and curators, creatives from historically disadvantaged communities, and those working with digital and time-based media are especially encouraged to apply.
Selected proposals will be reviewed by a committee comprising AVA board members and invited panellists. Exhibitions may include works for sale, although proposals that are experimental or less commercially focused are equally welcome.
Submissions for the 2027 exhibition programme close on 31 July 2026, with applicants expected to be notified by the end of September 2026.
If you are planning an exhibition for 2027, this open call offers an opportunity to present new work at one of Cape Town’s longest-standing contemporary art spaces.
