Curated by emerging curator Tamaryne Bimray, Tomorrow is Listening explores the ways memory, inheritance and time shape our understanding of ourselves and the spaces we inhabit. Presented within the historic setting of Rust-en-Vrede Gallery, the exhibition considers how the objects, places and stories we inherit continue to influence the present while creating connections with future generations.
Through painting, sculpture, photography and mixed media, the participating artists reflect on themes of heritage, nostalgia, family histories and the traces people leave behind. Everyday objects become vessels of memory, while familiar spaces and personal archives are reimagined as living records that continue to evolve over time.
Rather than viewing inheritance solely as something we receive, Tomorrow is Listening suggests that it is also something we create. The memories we preserve, the stories we share and the objects we choose to keep all become part of an ongoing conversation between past, present and future. Set within one of the Western Cape’s oldest heritage buildings, the exhibition invites visitors to reflect on what they will leave behind and how today’s experiences may become tomorrow’s history.
